This three-part video is adapted from NJEP's two-day Judicial Curriculum and focuses on learning to deal fairly with sexual assault cases without undermining defendants' constitutional rights. It approaches the issue of sexual violence from the critical vantage point of fairness in the administration of justice.The video is structured around a case study that follows the various stages of trial. The video curriculum consists of three videotapes and a self-study guide, and is divided into sections on Victims, Offenders, and Voir Dire. It provides the most current social science research about how different victims react during and after the assault, rape-related posttraumatic stress disorder, sex offenders and sex offender sentencing and treatment, and jurors' attitudes towards rape. The Judge's Role in Stranger and Nonstranger Rape and Sexual Assault Cases (DVD)
NJEP has adapted its highly regarded video curriculum, The Judge's Role in Stranger and Nonstranger Rape and Sexual Assault Cases for DVD. This DVD version is augmented with a segment on the neurobiology of trauma and an associated website. The NEW Neurobiology of Trauma section is presented in lecture format as it was taped at a live NJEP program for the Michigan Judicial Institute. This section explores the physical effects of a traumatic event, such as a sexual assault, on a victim's brain.The curriculum consists of a DVD disc with both a DVD and a ROM portion, an associated website and an Instructor's Guide. It provides the most current social science research about how different victims react during and after the assault, rape-related posttraumatic stress disorder, sex offenders and sex offender sentencing and treatment, and jurors' attitudes towards rape. This video is a re-enactment of part of an interview conducted with a college student / rapist by Dr. David Lisak, Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Men's Sexual Trauma Research Center at the University of Massachusetts-Boston.
