Module 1
Why Should Sexual Assault Victim Advocates Understand the Criminal Justice System?

Using the State-Specific Guide

At several points in each module you will be asked to consult your state-specific guide about matters such as your state’s law on the statute of limitations in sexual assault cases or local hospitals/SANE program’s time limit for conducting a medical forensic sexual assault examination after an assault.

If your coalition or agency has already used the template included in this training to create a state-specific guide for your jurisdiction, refer to it as you come across these prompts in the module material.  If, when you start to use this training, your coalition or agency has not yet drafted a state-specific guide, ask them to undertake this project as soon as possible so that you get the maximum benefit from this training.

This module will be available to you as soon as you complete Module 1. To complete a module, you must read each of the lessons and complete the review quiz at the end.

It is important to finish Module 1 so that you have sufficient context for the rest of the program. After that, you'll have full access to jump between lessons however works best for you.

Tip: In the left sidebar, you'll notice a vertical bar of squares. Each square represents a lesson in that module. You can see at a glance which lessons you've done (brightly colored) and which ones you have not (gray).
