Module 6
Considerations for Advocacy on Behalf of Victims from Vulnerable Populations

Advocating for Native American/Alaskan Native Victims of Sexual Assault

Advocacy services are critical for sexual assault victims on tribal lands. Advocates can play a role in coordinating a better response to sexual assault for Native American/Alaskan Native populations.

  • Advocates and agencies should explore ways to build relationships and rapport with all area agencies that may have jurisdiction over sexual assault and help keep the flow of information sharing consistent.
  • Advocacy agencies can help form a Sexual Assault Response Team if none exists for a particular tribal population. Advocates should be aware of all resources available locally, both on and off tribal lands for survivors of sexual assault.
  • Advocates can explore options for remote assistance like telemedicine or how agencies may be able to provide tele-advocacy services to reach victims in geographically remote areas.
