Module 6
Considerations for Advocacy on Behalf of Victims from Vulnerable Populations

Teen Dating Violence

Teen Dating Violence (TDV) is a term used to describe a broad range of abusive behaviors, including sexual violence, perpetrated in relationships between teenagers aged 11-19. Just as in adult intimate partner violence, TDV is rooted in perpetrators’ exertion of power and control. TDV is just as lethal and harmful as adult intimate partner violence but it is not always perceived as such. Teens may use different mechanisms to perpetrate this abuse, including widespread use of social media by TDV perpetrators. Legal Momentum’s National Judicial Education Program (NJEP) has a suite of information and resource sheets on the topic of teen dating violence available for free.
