Prohibitions against Pregnancy Discrimination

An employer may not discriminate against anyone otherwise qualified on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or pregnancy-related conditions. A person must be “otherwise qualified” with or without reasonable accommodations.

Pregnancy Accommodation

Utah does not provide additional protections to the federal law.

Pregnancy-related Disability Accommodation

Utah does not specifically accommodate pregnancy or its attendant medical conditions as a disability.

Breastfeeding Rights

A woman has a right to breastfeed in public. It is unclear whether this authorization extends to her place of employment.

Family and Childcare Leave Laws

State workers who earn sick leave may use it for preventive health and dental care, maternity, paternity, and adoption care, or for absence from duty because of illness, injury or disability of the employee, a spouse, children or parents living in the employee's home; or qualifying FMLA purposes.
