Module 12
Campus Sexual Assault: Institutional Reporting and Disciplinary Processes

Conclusion

Though there is great variation in policies of colleges and universities across the U.S., all schools must respond to sexual assault. Students should be aware of their school’s policies and how to reach school employees responsible for responding to complaints of sexual assault. Schools’ obligation to respond to sexual assault exists independent of whether victims choose to navigate the criminal justice system. When victims choose to navigate both the campus and criminal justice systems, advocates can play an important role in helping victims manage expectations for each process and in linking communication between the professions involved in each.
